NEWSFLASH: Exclusive Video of Mike Huckabee Calling for Scholarships and In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens
The following is from one of my favorite readers here at the Arkansas Journal.

Huckabee announces his desire to give scholarships to illegal aliens in his January 11, 2005 State of the State address. Huckabee doesn't say "illegal aliens". He uses the word "status". But a newspaper account makes clear his intentions, "Illegal aliens would be eligible for state taxpayer-funded college scholarships and in-state college tuition rates under a bill that was endorsed by a committee of the Arkansas House of Representatives on Tuesday. House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, is part of Gov. Mike Huckabee’s legislative package. It easily won favor in the House Education Committee, of which Elliott is chairman." (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2/23/2005)
Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, said she had already planned to file a bill granting instate status to the children of immigrants who live in Arkansas and have applied to state universities. "It’s nice to know we will have an ally in the governor’s office." (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 1/12/05)
Another newspaper account, "Gov. Mike Huckabee, who included the bill in his legislative package, drew a contrast between Wednesday's vote in support of illegal immigrants and the state's handling of the 1957 desegregation of Little Rock's Central High School. "They took a stand that Arkansas can be proud of,"Huckabee said in describing the House. "I think if we had taken a similar one in 1957, it would have made us proud for a long, long time." " (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2/24/2005)

Huckabee was insinuating that not giving taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens was akin to stopping the Little Rock Nine from attending Central High. Therefore, we're all racists if we don't think that we should have to give illegal aliens college scholarships, saying nothing of the U.S. citizens who would lose out on that same opportunity.
Huckabee calling those of us in Arkansas who opposed illegal immigration racists was par for the course. He went so far as to suggest that a Republican legislator wasn't a good Christian for proposing a bill to prohibit spending taxpayer money to give illegal aliens benefits, saying that he drank a different kind of "Jesus juice".
Huckabee ran Arkansas as a sanctuary state. "Do we want to change the future for these kids? Then let’s give them the opportunity. Let’s not say that our doors are open but our opportunities are closed," Huckabee said in his address.
Rep. Denny Altes, R-Fort Smith, said citizens’ children should come first in college scholarship eligibility. "What kind of message are we sending to the people south of the border, you know?" Altes said. "Are we saying, ‘Yeah, come on,’ or are we saying, ‘No. There’s still a border there.’" (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 1/12/05)
There is much more to come on Huckabee's Sanctuary State in the coming weeks. I've said before that each of these posts is another nail in Huckabee's political coffin. I've got a whole box of nails.

So let me see if I get this staight:
Huckabee wants to give taxpayer funds to people over 18 years of age who came here illegally when they were children?
How does that make any sense? When do we stop rewarding people for coming here illegally?
Oops!
Game over Mikey.
I remember that like it was yesterday. Mike Huckabee was as much a Republican as Michael Bloomberg is.
I remember joining the Arkansas Eagle Forum, Freerepublic members, and other conservatives in defeating HB1525. We ran around the State Capitol meeting with Republican and Democrat Congress members telling them our opposition to the bill. It was barely defeated.
Whatever good Huckabee may have done on other issues, it does not make up for his mistakes on illegal immigration. If he really cared about educating children from Mexico, he should have demanded reform in their home country, not give their crooked "government" a consulate
I wish the people of Iowa and the national press would come down here and ask us about Mike Huckabee. He is repeatedly lying about his record - granted he does it in a likeable way - and nobody challenges him on it or ask anybody from Arkansas if what he is saying is true.
Where is Huck's Army to defend this video???
Guess they're waiting for Mike to tell them what the campaign's talking points will be...
I'll be patient....
Still no response from Huck's Army. Maybe they haven't gotten used to the non-Soviet controls on their new tanks.
I don't need talking points to recognize racism and vindictiveness when I see it. Who runs this site? The Klan?
Most illegals are paying taxes (see http://tinyurl.com/r7u37) including Arkansas' sales, property and income taxes, so to say they're getting an advantage over non-Arkansas residents simply isn't true. Other so-called "red states" like Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have supported similar measures as this one.
To anyone who thinks this benefit "rewards" illegal immigration, they haven't paid much attention to what a college education costs these days. Illegals are coming here to get paid for work, not to pay for tuition.
Washington is turning a blind eye to the problem of illegal immigration since businesses benefit from their cheap labor. Big business in turn funnels money to candidates like Giuliani, Romney and Thompson via PACs.
The Huckster's a flash in the Iowa pan. He's going nowhere, nationally. He cannot win the GOP nomination. There are two men who conservatives hate as much as they do Hillary--Ghouliani and the Huckster. That's why Romney will win them nomination, though not with my vote (I'm an Indy con).

"I don't need talking points to recognize racism and vindictiveness when I see it. Who runs this site? The Klan?"
I like these talking points. This is typical of the response people who oppose illegal aliens got from Huckabee when he was governor.
We want to control the borders and stop illegal immigration...so we're racists... The politics of personal destruction are in full-force.
"Washington is turning a blind eye to the problem of illegal immigration since businesses benefit from their cheap labor. Big business in turn funnels money to candidates like Giuliani, Romney and Thompson via PACs."
I guess that's why some of them want to stop illegal immigration. What's Huckabee's reason for pretending to be strong on illegal immigration, now? The Klan?
What is the last refuge of a lying liberal who gets caught in a lie? Call anyone who disagrees with the liberal lie a racist. Huck should be ashamed of himself.
good lord. huckabee is awful
Don't worry. Our next President Fred Thompson will take care of Huckananny in due course. That one you can take to the bank.
You mean, President Jeri Thompson, right? The old man can't even figure out what side of the abortion debate he's on, he's nothing like Reagan -- except for the acting career.
Wow, that was brilliant. I guess you mean aside from his 100% pro-life voting record.
Get out some more nails and pass them around. I'm ready to see the Huckster's political coffin nailed shut forever more. Help enlighten the Iowans because we know what the MSM would do with a Huckster victory...what they tried to do with McCain in 2000. They are afraid of the true conservative, Thompson.
There is only one candidate that can be depended on not to be a hypocrite or be bought off by special interests. There is only one candidate that has the track record to back up the oath of office taken and the knowledge of the constitution to restore it. There is only one candidate that can beat Hillary.... that is Ron Paul. All the other candidates are from some slightly different mold we have been getting for nearly 50 years. No one, I repeat, NO ONE has your family and your freedoms in mind more than Dr. Paul. Google Ron Paul. Go to: www. thecase for ronpaul.com (w/o spaces). We all need to unite behind Congressman Paul to take our country and liberties back. God bless us all.
Film critic and talk-radio host Michael Medved looks over Paul’s supporters and finds “an imposing collection of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Holocaust deniers, 9/11 ‘truthers’ and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.”
I wonder which category our vigilant Ron Paul supporter falls into?
It must be true what they say about the ignorance of hillbillies if the comments I've read here are any indication.
You people are squabbling over Huckabee versus Thompson, both horrible candidates who are NOT "conservatives".
The ONLY honorable man with a message that is shaking the ground is Ron Paul.
You can remain pea-brained podunk white trash or you can join the only intelligent, educated movement for free markets, true accounts of history, and an observance of ethical conduct always, but ONLY if you support Ron Paul.
We are going to each your lunch, to put it mildly. Spare yourselves the embarrassment and get with the program.
I mean Dead-Head-Fred's refusal to support a "right to life" amendment -- you know, part of the GOP PLANK!
I guess your white hoods got in the way of seeing Thompson on Meet the Press.
Thompson's a worthless tool...
"Film critic and talk-radio host Michael Medved looks over Paul’s supporters and finds “an imposing collection of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Holocaust deniers, 9/11 ‘truthers’ and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.”"
Because, you know, citing film critics and talk show hosts' opinions makes FAR more sense than looking at the actual issues on the table.
I'm not saying Michael Medved couldn't analyze his way out of a paper bag, I'm just saying he has enough hot air to begin speaking and have the bag rise off his head.
Guilt by association is the LAZIEST form of fallacy. It's a cheap, spineless version of an ad hominem.
Go do some reading Mr. Anonymous poster. We'll see if we can find you an essay with pictures.

James, you never said what category you were in.
Here is the full quote:
Don’t Be Scared
Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee.
By Jonah Goldberg
As the hopeless but energetic presidential campaign of Rep. Ron Paul (R., Tex.) builds momentum in name recognition, fundraising and cross-ideology appeal, some conservatives are beginning to attack him in earnest. A GOP consultant condemns Paul’s “increasingly leftish” positions. Syndicated columnist Mona Charen calls Paul “too cozy with kooks and conspiracy theorists.” Film critic and talk-radio host Michael Medved looks over Paul’s supporters and finds “an imposing collection of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Holocaust deniers, 9/11 ‘truthers’ and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.”
Your problem isn't with me pal, its with Jonah Goldberg.
Why are we allowing illegal aliens to enter our school systems?? Crazy. That should not be allowed, enugh is enough!!

Here's a great bumper sticker that's popping up everywhere:
"Support More Illegal Immigration: Vote Huckabee in 2008!"

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of all the dole-out programs given out to everybody that has not paid in to the, our system so to speak. I live in Louisiana and have a son in college. I don't get any grants or money to send him to colege. It comes out of my pocket besides some of the LOANS we have taken out that WE'll have to pay back as well as alot of other students that are AMERICANS. I think it is all a I guess a bunch of BS that anybody can come in here and get the silver platter treatment at taxpayers expense.I just wonder who's side the politicians are on. I just wonder what you AMERICANS are doing beside nothing to correct the problem with all of this while you all are sitting on your cozy little DUFFS!
I see alot of complainig on all of these blogs and comments and still nothing is getting done while our elected officials are sticking it up our behinds and breaking it off up to you know where and laughing all the way to the bank. Folks, we are just about to go out of business in this country. Let me remind all of you of this. We are but just a delete button on a computer away from being flat broke!
GO HUCK GO! You have my vote !! Kim
We, as a people, need to stop all of this childish name calling and vicious verbal attacks just because we don't believe in whatever it is that any and everyone else espouses. Being able to have your own opinions and beliefs and not be chastised is one of the reasons why this country is the greatest in the Universe.
For example, regardless of who you support, grouping all of Ron Paul's followers as "neo Nazi's, Holacaust deniers, white supremeists, etc. etc. is just a slap in the face of our brave troops. How/why you ask? Because Ron Paul has recieved more active military donations than any other candidate, that's why.
And as a person of mixed-race, I don't fall into any of the aformentioned categories and I am definitely of sound mind and body. I'd doubt very seriously that you would make those disparagingly ignorant, generalized comments if I was standing over your shoulder in full uniform...that is if you have any respect for our military.
Yeah, I know they say that "Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt me," but try telling that to a four year old whose mom just told him she wishes that he'd never been born!"
So, be careful of what you quote; regardless of who it "came from" ...anonymous.
Would he then make in-state tuition available to students from other states, or would he discriminate against them? Some people apply in their home state, and for one reason or another cannot get in. Applying to a neighboring state they are accepted, but it is too expensive because of "out-of-state" tuition.
