Huckabee's Solution for Health Care System---Lower Medical Costs...Seriously

Here's a quote from the AP story about Huckabee's position on health care. Note this isn't a direct quote from Huckabee, but a paraphrase from the AP story.

"Huckabee, who has made his personal bout with diabetes a centerpiece of his campaign, said lowering medical costs would solve America's health care problems, not universal health care."

Right. How does the government lower medical costs? ArKids 1st? S-CHIP?

Here's a little secret most politicians don't seem to know. The cost of healthcare is as high as it is because, like education, almost nobody actually pays for it. If we had socialized tires or air travel, there would quickly be a shortage of the fanciest kinds of tires and 1st class seats and the price for both would skyrocket because of the articial increase in demand. The solution isn't more government intervention, but less. The solution is more people paying for their own care, not fewer. Competition is always a better regulator of prices than the government. Tax incentives for programs like HSAs and MSAs are the best solutions currently offered in the marketplace of ideas.
