Brummett: Huckabee's Media Skills

John Brummett has a very good column about how it is that Mike Huckabee is such a smooth operator with the media, throwing out soundbites like a disc jockey... Well, he was one.
I have a friend who has also said Huckabee is unique because he's a preacher. Unlike most politicians, who give the same stump speech over and over, I don't know if I ever heard him give the same speech twice. I have heard the same stories many times, but, as my friend suggested, as a preacher Huckabee had to say something different every Sunday, which is why, with the help of his speechwriters, he's able come up with so much slick material.
But getting back to John Brummett's column, Huck is a smooth operator much more in the styling of a disc jockey. He's right. I would say that his speeches and long form talking is much more in the style of a preacher. His soundbites are those of a disc jockey.
"His superficially likable nature, which provides the essence of his oddly succeeding presidential campaign, comes via a disc jockey's shtick rather than a pastor's. I refer to the rich intonations of his professional voice, the music, the hip topicality, the impersonations, the jokes, the Mr. Glib."
Here's the link to Brummett's superb column.
