The Dark Side of Huck...Well, One of 'Em

John Brummett's latest column hits it right on the head. Huckabee plays to his audience. That's evident in his recent Christmas ad.

On the campaign trail he's all flowers and sausages, but when governing the cares of conservatives fall by the wayside of his ambitions. His attitude has always been that we should be grateful that he lets us come along for the ride. The fact that we put him where he is never crosses his mind.

One example of this is a scolding he gave us years ago at a Republican Committee meeting when most of us wanted an explanation of the party's finances. Instead of being the Christian leader he pretends to be, who would have sought to find any corruption, he cast the blame on us. He asked for those in the crowd whom he had appointed to various positions to show hands. Most in the crowd raised their hand. He was reminding us that we owed him and to shut up.

This incident was one of a few public airings of his dark side that I witnessed. There were many more in private. The point is he puts on different faces depending on the situation.

Believe you me, you don't want to be on his bad side. I've seen too much of that.

Here's the link to Brummett's column.

If there was no Mike Huckabee, there would've been no Tim or Asa Hutchinson, Win Rockefeller, Jay Dickey, etc. etc. Mike made it alright to be a Republican in the late 90s and into to the 2000s. With the exception of Win, everyone else was jealous of Huckabee. That's why there is so much animosity against him.

That is a positively ignorant statement.

The whole country was swinging in the Republican direction when all of them rose to prominence. Tim won against a pitiful candidate in Winston Bryant. Asa easily to Tim's House seat, then rose to fame for his superb work as a House Manager prosecuting Clinton's impeachment.

Jay Dickey was helped somewhat by Huckabee, but, again, he was elected when sentiment for Republicans across the country was high. He, like Tim, was up against a weak democrat.

Mike didn't make it alright to be a Republican. He ran us into the ground and used the party for his benefit, which is pretty evident based on the state we're in, today.

If the opposite were the case, he would have left a stronger, not weaker, party in his wake. Why isn't it okay to be a Republican in Arkansas immediately on the heels of his exit from office? There are obvious national trends for the last election, but the party in Arkansas was already spiraling out of control long before the '06 elections.

I don't know how you've gained this remarkable skill to read the minds of Asa and Tim, but clearly don't know them very well. They have been very gracious to endorse him. They certainly don't owe him very much. Huckabee was the one who couldn't handle their success. He didn't like having rivals within his own party.

As for the animosity against Huckabee, I have said many, many times that if Huck had been a conservative who had sincerely sought to build the party, I would be leading the charge for him. Unfortunately, he operated in a spiteful, vengeful, arrogant, liberal manner.

You obviously haven't read, or aren't willing to admit to, the overwhelming evidence that Mike Huckabee was a liberal governor. That is why there is so much opposition to him. He caused this.

We don't owe him anything. We owe it to the American people to tell them who the real Mike Huckabee is.

He's a dishonest liberal. Read this blog. Disprove anything I've written. The overwhelming evidence is that Mike Huckabee is exactly what I describe him as. Your lack of proof to the contrary speaks volumes.

With all due respect, Huckabee is not a Liberal. He belongs to the Republican Party and he is a Conservative. Period. I'll stand by and let you folks trash talk us Liberals till the cows come home, it seems to give you all much needed pleasure, but there is no way in hades that I am going to let you tie this full tilt loonie to us. He's your man, so use some of that personal responsibility, accept him as not only one of yours, but one of your leaders and give ole' Huck a big hug...oh, I guess that would be a little fruity for ya'll, huh? We knew that whole religious leader thing was a marketing ploy to get ole W elected, but now ya'll are giving us a True Believer. Thanks, we really appreciate it. Ya'll may have values, but your taste in politicians suck.
