Huckabee Lying, Again

Mike Huckabee is at it again. Without giving any proof or specifics, Huckabee whined on Meet the Press that Mitt Romney isn't telling the truth about his record.

Feel free to disprove the lies, Mike.

Oh, and some good news, Huckabee has now fallen out of first place in Iowa and is slipping all over the country.

Here's the link.

Huckabee Has NO Support in Arkansas...Why is That?

Just a little reminder for all my out of state readers that Mike Huckabee only polled 8% in a recent poll in Arkansas.

My work takes me all around the state and I have only seen 3 Huckabee bumper stickers. 3!!!

Doesn't that make you wonder???

Gilbert Baker Still Peddling Lies for Huckabee

Bragging that Huckabee made Arkansas the 2nd state to join the federal 287(g) program, Arkansas State Senator Gilbert Baker is continuing his campaign of deception for the Huckster.

While it may be true that Arkansas was the 2nd state to pass a law to allow our police to work with ICE, Gilbert knows that Huckabee strongly opposed former State Representative Jeremy Hutchinson proposing the legislation. Huckabee signed it begrudgingly and then "didn't have time" to enact it...TWO YEARS apparently wasn't enough time, even though it was half of his last term in office.

The truth, that Gilbert Baker knows, is that Mike Huckabee thought those of us who supported that law were racist. He accused us of being bad Christians for not wanting to give college scholarships and other taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens. Gilbert knows that Huck made Arkansas a Sanctuary State by trying to make the state as friendly as possible to illegal aliens and by preventing, actively, the State Police from becoming part of the 287(g) program, effectively preventing them from enforcing immigration law.

Gilbert, you know Huckabee didn't allow the state police to put this program to work. Why are you pretending that Huck wanted the program? What does Huckabee have to offer that's more important than telling the truth?

Fred Sort of Reminds Me of Someone...

A lot of my friends keep making a big deal about Fred Thompson not having an all-consuming desire to be president.

Drudge has a headline about this reads, "Fred Thompson: 'I'm not particularly interested in running for president'..."

Most people won't read beyond the headline. I've had to deal with so many people who only see this sound byte.

If they'd read Fred's whole statement, they would know that he's not saying that he doesn't want to be president, but that it's not a lifelong, burning desire.

I think it's refreshing to have someone running for president who doesn't have an ego the size of Mike Huckabee's or Bill Clinton's.

If you really want to know what Fred thinks about this, read the article I've linked below. It's the same article that Drudge linked. Drudge, however, leaves you with a very different impression than what Fred actually said.

As for people who would have rather lived a normal life but sacrificed to serve their country, George Washington comes to mind. He didn't want to be president. He spurned offers to make him king. He set the example of a citizen leader, gladly yielding his position after two terms, an act which was almost unprecedented in history. If he had been like many ambitious men, he could have remained president for the rest of his life. But he didn't desire power. He wanted to retire to a private life that he had certainly earned, but he was willing to serve his country, not for the sake of his ego.

When I think of Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton, and the others running for president I see ambitious people, driven by ego. When I see Fred Thompson I see a man who has long since earned his retirement, but is willing to offer his service to his country, much like the 1st President of the United States.

Mike Huckabee's Lack of Foreign Policy Experience on Display, Again...

Here's one more example of how ill-informed Mike Huckabee is on matters of foreign policy and how quick he is to shoot off his lip. Huckabee isn't aware that martial law isn't in effect in Pakistan. This might not be such a big deal except he likes shoot from the lip and from the hip when it comes to matters of foreign policy. This is from the guy who called President Bush's foreign policy "arrogant" and insinuated that the president didn't know what he was doing.
Mike Huckabee is not only arrogant he's also completely inept and uninformed about matters of foreign policy.

Mike Huckabee Makes List of 10 Most Corrupt Politicians

Judicial Watch, a prominent watchdog group which focuses on corruption in government has released its list of the 10 most corrupt politicians in American politics. Topping that list is Hillary Clinton. Also on the list is my former governor Mike Huckabee, which comes as no surprise, given his myriad ethical shortcomings.
"Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. "

Huck the Hunter Needs a Refresher in Firearm Safety

Mike Huckabee's now famous pheasant hunt in Iowa was marked by a little noticed and reported incident in which he fired his shotgun over the heads of reporters.
He may have been a reporter all of his life, but that stunt would have got him kicked out of most hunting clubs I know.
The Swamp blog has the story. Here's the link.

Huckabee's Amazing Democrat Impersonation

You may or may not be aware that Mike Huckabee is famous for his impersonations. He does a spot on Bill Clinton and a passable Ronald Reagan. It shouldn't come as a surprise that his best impersonations are of democrats. He's not joking, unfortunately.

Huckabee on CEO Pay

You've probably seen Huckabee rail against CEO pay (if you haven't, see here and here, but until now, Huckabee has not been clear about what exactly he would do about CEO pay if he were President. Yesterday, CNBC's John Harwood asked Mike Huckabee just that.

HUCKABEE: It’s a combination. It’s when one person losing his job who helped make the company successful and the person who steers the company either into bankruptcy or selling off it in pieces is taking that golden parachute of several hundred million dollars. I mean, there’s just something wrong about that, and every American knows it, whether he’s at the top or bottom. What the government ought to do is, first of all, call attention to it, put some spotlight on it. I don’t think it’s about coming up with some new regulation. Corporate boards ought to show some responsibility. If a board allows that kind of thing to happen, shame on that board. And I would hope that it wouldn’t necessitate additional laws and regulation because usually when you get into regulation, it just gets worse and it makes it [an] even bigger problem than you had to begin with.

HARWOOD: So you wouldn’t actually do anything about it as the head of the government? You would simply use the pulpit to talk about it?

HUCKABEE: That would be the first line of maybe offense, perhaps John. And then what I would like to see is the corporate board showing responsibility with an understanding that if they don’t start showing some responsibility, then they’re going to end up forcing government to take action, which is the worst thing that could happen and it only exacerbates a problem rather than actually solve it.

Huckabee's response is emblematic of his governing approach. He claims government is not the answer, but, at the end of the day, he is willing to use government to achieve the results he deems morally necessary. Notice also how Huckabee inoculates himself, arguing that he would be forced to impose government regulations because of inaction on the part of corporate boards. It is a clever political gambit that allows him to claim opposition to new regulations in principle, while he imposes them left and right because others are "forcing" him to do so.

Here's the link.

Club for Growth nailed this one. Huckabee always has an excuse for why he does what he does. When he raises taxes, it's because the democrats wouldn't do anything else, or because the people of Arkansas made him do it.

Huckabee Still Charges for Speeches...Are You Kidding Me?

Politico has the story. I mentioned this before, but it's really stunning to think about. Mike Huckabee is running for president, but he wants people to pay him to here him speak. This isn't like the recent trend of charging for campaign bumper stickers. This is to line Huck's own pockets. He's capitalizing on his popularity.

Here's the link.

Illegal Immigration: Huckabee Caught Lying, Again...

I've been saying this for months. Now, The Washington Times is covering the fact that Mike Huckabee has been lying about his record dealing with illegal aliens.
He's been claiming that he had the Arkansas State Police enforce immigration laws as part of the federal 287(g) program.
As I pointed out a long time ago. He signed a bill to do that, very begrudgingly, but then prevented the state police from becoming part of the program.
Again we see State Senator Gilbert Baker shilling for Huckabee. In an attempt to deceive people into thinking Mike Huckabee's record is that of a conservative, Gilbert and former State Representative Doug Matayo have been gallavanting around the country distorting the truth. Gilbert intentionally misrepresented the truth on this subject, bragging that Huckabee had signed the 287(g) bill. He left off that Huck had done so very unenthusiastically. Gilbert couldn't mischaracterize Huckabee's follow through, though. Huckabee prevented his state police director, Steve Dozier, from negotiating an agreement with Homeland Security to make it happen.
Nowadays, if you read Huck's website, you'll see that he takes credit for something that never happened. "As governor, I ordered my state troopers to work with the Department of Homeland Security to arrest illegals and enforce federal immigration law."
He did not do that.
Now that's the lie has been put to that statement, he's claiming that he didn't have time to get the program up and running. He had 2 years and he didn't do ANYTHING. I'd say he's right. If you never start a project, you'll never have enough time to finish it.
But, again, Huckabee is lying. He's claiming that it was a lack of time and not interest that kept it from happening. 2 years is half the term of a governor. Until Bill Clinton, 2 years was the entire term of Arkansas governors. How could he possibly claim that 2 years isn't enough time?
One more time, we're seeing Mike Huckabee not only as the liberal that he was when he was in office, but we also see him lying about his record. Unfortunately, we also have Republicans from Arkansas who are willing to dispense with their integrity to distort Huckabee's record. Gilbert Baker more than anybody ought to be ashamed of himself. He's showing himself to be a political shill more than the man of character he makes himself out to be. He knows that Mike Huckabee didn't want the 287(g) program to go into effect, but he isn't honest enough to say it. Instead, he's spinning the issue to look like Huckabee was the primary force behind it, rather than the unwilling participant who eventually killed it.
There's so much more I could say about this, but I can't right now. It's not because of a lack of interest, but a lack of time...

Hucked on Meth

Huckabee's opponents are pointing out that he is soft on crime, not just murderers and rapists, but also meth dealers. And they have a point. Huckabee supported and signed into law legislation that lessens the prison sentence of meth dealers, who are a scourge on our society.
I've been talking about this for a long time. Mike Huckabee is soft on criminals. He showed much more compassion for criminals while in office than he did for their victims.
Meth destroys lives and families.
Maybe this explains his weight loss and his frenetic activity... Just kidding. This is a serious matter. I know Iowans understand this problem of meth better than many given how widespread it is in the Midwest.

Jesus IS the Reason for the Season

Let's also remember that Christmas isn't about presents or Santa Claus. It's about Jesus' birth. The Son of God became a man, died for our sins and rose from the dead so that we could have eternal life.
Luke 2:1-20
1. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

"Happy Holidays" from Hillary

Hillary's "holiday" commercial turns my stomach. It's so blatant. She is so imperious to flaunt that she will "give" us "universal health care", "alternative energy", "middle class tax breaks", and "universal pre-k", as if she (Big Government) gives us anything that she doesn't first have to take away from us.

This is typical liberalism. Big Government "gives" us everything, right after it takes it away from us.

As for "middle class tax breaks", many of you who consider yourselves to be "middle class" will be disappointed to find that she and democrats consider you to be "the rich", meaning that you're not going to get Hillary's present of a "tax break", but a lump of coal in the form of a tax hike. That's where she gets the money, she thinks, for socialized health care and all these other entitlements she's so generous with. I could "give" my family a tropical island if I "gave" the way Hillary does. Take it away from someone who earned it.

Merry Christmas, indeed. Oh, I'm sorry, "happy holidays".

Huck Hasn't Gotten Key Southern Baptist Endorsements

Bob Novak has a very telling piece about Huck not receiving the endorsement of key Southern Baptists, many of whom remember him as an appeaser in the battle to wrest the Convention from liberals in decades past.

This has long been a criticism. I'm very familiar with this problem for Huckabee. I'm not surprised that this is haunting him. He behaved in the same way, ingraciating himself to liberals, as governor, where he didn't take on the Clinton Machine as enemies, but as employees.

Limbaugh Responds to Huckabee's Pitiful Plea

Rush Limbaugh responded magnanimously to Mike Huckabee's feigned attempt to smooth things over. Jonathan Martin at Politico has the story, again.

Rush accepted Huckabee's apology, but did not modify his opinion of Huckabee as a liberal.

In an email response Rush wrote, "Gov. Huckabee's campaign is engaged in identity politics at this moment, so I understand his adviser's/supporter's intent to put the focus on me rather than the substance of my commentary."

Rush didn't respond well to Huckabee's rude suggestion that Rush contact him. As I pointed out in my previous post, Huckabee could have gotten in touch with Rush if he'd wanted to. He was tweaking Rush by making such a rude suggestion that it was Rush's responsibility to contact him when it was a Huckabee staffer who had insulted Rush.

Huckabee Offers Mealy-Mouthed Praise and "Olive Branch" to Rush Limbaugh

Jonathan Martin of Politico.com has a story about Mike Huckabee's pitiful attempt to pretend that he likes Rush Limbaugh.

As I've said before, the Huckabees don't listen to Rush. I've personally mentioned Rush to Janet and she stared at me blankly as if she didn't care and didn't believe he would say anything positive about Mike. I've had accounts recently of people close to Huckabee making fun of and criticizing Rush, even before Huck drew Rush's ire, but especially since.

"I love Rush Limbaugh; I've always loved his show," Huckabee assured. "I think he’s been great for the conservative movement."

Unfortunately, Huckabee has been terrible for the conservative movement. He single-handedly dismantled it and the Republican party in Arkansas.

Huckabee is in way over his head with this one. He made a big mistake letting his disdain for Rush become public. Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the conservative movement. He's not going to fooled or charmed by Huck into believing that Huckabee is a fan or a conservative.

If Huckabee was a fan of Rush, we'd know it. He certainly wouldn't have raised our taxes by half a billion dollars or called those of us who didn't want Arkansas to become a Sanctuary State racists. Rush knows that those aren't the actions or words of a conservative. Those are the actions and words of a liberal.

Asking Rush to get in touch with him shows a remarkable amount of arrogance on Huckabee's part. He could have gotten in touch with Rush if he'd wanted to. He's grandstanding this feigned admiration for Rush in a pitiful attempt to fool Rush into thinking he's a conservative and charm Rush into not pointing out that Huck's a liberal anymore.

Rush has already pointed out that Huckabee is a liberal. He's mentioned several times that he doesn't appreciate Huckabee trying to redefine conservatism to mean anything that Huckabee does or has done.

I'm waiting with bated breath to hear Rush's reaction to Huckabee's meager and superficial admiration.

More to come...

Sanders' Political Christmas Wish List

Here's the link.

Huckabee's Brand of "Conservatism": Let the Gov't Grow the Economy

January, 2005 Huckabee:

"A college graduate will earn $1 million more in a lifetime than someone without a degree. Most of you know that we are tied with West Virginia for last place in the number of adults with a baccalaureate education. Do you realize that if we could increase just by 50 percent the number of adults who have a college degree, it would add $5 billion to the economy and it would result in a net income to the state of Arkansas of $340 million a year? For those of you who are saying how are we going to find money to pay for -- and you can fill in the blank of what we're going to pay for -- I'll tell you how we will find money. Get more kids in, through and out of college with a degree. The money for Arkansas' future is in the minds and the hearts of those kids that right now aren't finishing." Link.

This is an example of how liberals think of education. The liberal thinks: if only a child receives this opportunity, then the child will do better. In reality, those who get into college, in general, work harder than those who do not go to college. A college degree is an indicator that someone works harder. But college doesn't cause that person to learn to work harder. Self discipline was learned a long time ago. The added economic success of a college degree is not attributable to the college degree, but rather self-discipline. For the most part, a college degree does not matter in the real world.

Huckabee believes pushing lazy kids through college will make them more economically successful. He does not see that there is a difference between people who go to college and people who do not. And it is this difference which causes the difference in outcomes. Why let Huckabee spend taxpayer money betting on slackers?

The Dark Side of Huck...Well, One of 'Em

John Brummett's latest column hits it right on the head. Huckabee plays to his audience. That's evident in his recent Christmas ad.

On the campaign trail he's all flowers and sausages, but when governing the cares of conservatives fall by the wayside of his ambitions. His attitude has always been that we should be grateful that he lets us come along for the ride. The fact that we put him where he is never crosses his mind.

One example of this is a scolding he gave us years ago at a Republican Committee meeting when most of us wanted an explanation of the party's finances. Instead of being the Christian leader he pretends to be, who would have sought to find any corruption, he cast the blame on us. He asked for those in the crowd whom he had appointed to various positions to show hands. Most in the crowd raised their hand. He was reminding us that we owed him and to shut up.

This incident was one of a few public airings of his dark side that I witnessed. There were many more in private. The point is he puts on different faces depending on the situation.

Believe you me, you don't want to be on his bad side. I've seen too much of that.

Here's the link to Brummett's column.

Mike Huckabee Admits His Son Killed a Dog

This video has some pretty damning footage of Mike Huckabee admitting that his son, David, killed a dog at a Boy Scout camp. Huckabee specifically does not deny that his son brutally tortured and killed the dog.

I don't think the incident of David accidentally carrying his handgun into the airport is important. This video makes a big deal of it. I believe it was an honest mistake. I seriously doubt he thought he could carry a firearm onto a plane.

Let me say this, though. I know David Huckabee, not well, but I know him. He's a reasonably nice guy, but I don't think that justifies him torturing and killing a dog. Kids do stupid stuff, though, even mean stuff.

The real problem is that I don't think it's a stretch for Huck to have used his influence to prevent an investigation. The evidence of that appears to be credible.

Huckabee Gets on the Wrong Side of Rush

I'm glad to see that Rush has caught on to the fact that Mike Huckabee is a liberal. Huck has made a stupid blunder by insulting Rush, though. FYI, Mike, Rush isn't a New York/D.C. insider.

Here's the link.

Here's what one of Huck's Inside the Beltway supporters had to say about Rush.

"Honestly, because Rush doesn’t think for himself. That’s not necessarily a slap because he’s not paid to be a thinker—he’s an entertainer. I can’t remember the last time that he has veered from the talking points from the DC/Manhattan chattering class. If they were praising Huckabee, he would be too."

"Also, I have to think that he’s dying to have Hillary in the White House. Bill Clinton made Rush a megastar. Having another Clinton back in power would make him the Leading Voice of the Opposition once again."

He obviously hasn't listened to Rush before. It's not surprising. Several months ago, I bumped into Janet (Huckabee) and mentioned that Rush had said something good about Mike. She acted like she didn't know who Rush was.

Here's the link.

Also, FYI, Mike, Rush is the man Ronald Reagan personally asked to carry the banner of the Conservatism Movement.

Problems With Huckabee

THEN GOVERNOR HUCKABEE ON SCHOLARSHIPS ON ILLEGALS: LIES, DECEIT AND MISREPRESENTATION

In the You Tube Debate held last week, Mike Huckabee was asked the following question about sponsoring a bill proposing tuition cuts to illegal aliens graduating from Arkansas high schools:
“Governor Huckabee, while governor of Arkansas, you gave illegal aliens a discount for college in Arkansas by allow them to pay lower in-state tuition rates. However, we have thousands of military members currently serving our country in Iraq with children at home. If these children chose to move to Arkansas to attend college, they would have to pay three times the tuition rate that illegal aliens pay. Would you support a federal law which would require any state that gives these tuition rates to illegal aliens to give the same rates to the children of our military members?”

Huckabee answered:
“Thank you very much. Ashley, first of all, let me just express that you're a little misinformed. We never passed a bill that gave special privileges to the children of illegals to go to college.
Now, let me tell you what I did do. I supported the bill that would've allowed those children who had been in our schools their entire school life the opportunity to have the same scholarship that their peers had, who had also gone to high school with them and sat in the same classrooms.
They couldn't just move in in their senior year and go to college. It wasn't about out of state tuition. It was an academic, meritorious scholarship called the Academic Challenge Scholarship.
Now, let me tell you a couple of provisions of it. And, by the way, it didn't pass. It passed the House but got in the Senate and got caught up in the same kind of controversy that this country is caught up in.

And here's what happened. This bill would've said that if you came here, not because you made the choice but because your parents did, that we're not going to punish a child because the parent committed a crime.

That's not what we typically do in this country.

It said that if you'd sat in our schools from the time you're five or six-years old and you had become an A-plus student, you'd completed the core curriculum, you were an exceptional student, and you also had to be drug and alcohol-free -- and the other provision, you had to be applying for citizenship.

It accomplished two things that we knew we wanted to do, and that is, number one, bring people from illegal status to legal status.

And the second thing, we wanted people to be taxpayers, not tax-takers. And that's what that provision did.

And finally, would we give that provision to the children of veterans, personally? What we've done with not just the children of veterans, but most importantly, veterans is disgraceful in this country.

And that's why I proposed a veterans bill of rights that, if anything, would give our veterans the most exceptional privileges of all, because they are the ones who have earned all of our freedom -- every single one of them.”

Discussion of Huckabee’s Lies, Deceit and Misrepresentation

Instead of being candid, Huckabee tried to confuse the issue by interjecting information about the Arkansas Academic Challenge Program, codified at Ark. Code Ann. § 6-82-1001, et seq. (a copy of which is enclosed). The Academic Challenge Program is based on being an Arkansas resident and makes no mention of the children of illegal aliens. In addition, the truth is that Huckabee played no part in the Academic Challenge Program and that it was enacted with the passing of Arkansas Act 352 of 1991, becoming law more than four years before Huckabee began his first time as Arkansas Governor in 1996.

Mr. Huckabee sought to avoid questions about the bill that he was really asked about, the Access to Postsecondary Education Act of 2005, HB1525. A full copy of that bill is attached. Huckabee can be viewed promoting HB1525 during his State of the State Address at http://www.immigrationwatchdog.com/?p=5193.

A mere perusal of HB1525 reveals that Huckabee was deceptive in giving his response. For example, Huckabee indicated that the bill required children to attend schools in Arkansas their “entire school life,” or “from the time you’re five or six-years old.” However, Section 1(b) of HB1525 only required three years of attendance in an Arkansas school.

Huckabee claimed that students had to be an “a A-plus student” and that they must have “completed the core curriculum,” and “be drug and alcohol free.” The truth is that not even a single one of these requirements is contained in HB1525. HB1525 was not a merit based bill.
Huckabee also was untruthful when he said that the bill would “bring people from illegal status to legal status.” The bill did not require legal status. Rather, it only required filing an affidavit saying that you intend to legalize your immigration status. Contrary to what Huckabee said, HB1525 did not even require proof of even attempting to obtain legal status. Huckabee also tried to deflect attention away from his actions by saying that the bill would make people taxpayers. Again, the bill contained no such requirement because proof of legal status was not part of HB1525.

Summary of Huckabee’s Lies, Deceit and Misrepresentation
In sum, a total of five statements made by Huckabee in his response to one single question were lies. The lies were (as emphasized below):

(1) “I supported the bill that would've allowed those children who had been in our schools their entire school life the opportunity to have the same scholarship that their peers had, who had also gone to high school with them and sat in the same classrooms.”

(2) “It was an academic, meritorious scholarship called the Academic Challenge Scholarship.”

(3) “It said that if you'd sat in our schools from the time you're five or six-years old and you had become an A-plus student, you'd completed the core curriculum, you were an exceptional student, and you also had to be drug and alcohol-free -- and the other provision, you had to be applying for citizenship.”

(4) “It accomplished two things that we knew we wanted to do, and that is, number one, bring people from illegal status to legal status.”

(5) “And the second thing, we wanted people to be taxpayers, not tax-takers. And that's what that provision did.”

It’s one thing to flip flop on a position that is the most important issue in the campaign. It’s a vastly different thing to tell millions of Americans numerous lies about your record on the issue.

A Christmas Ad That Huckabee Doesn't Want You To See: "My Daughter Won't Be Home For Christmas"

Huck can do all the feel good ads he wants this Christmas, but he can't deny the fact that he helped Wayne DuMond get out of prison. This girl would be home with her family, where she belongs, if it weren't for Huck being more interested in how 1,033 criminals feel than their victims.

Merry Christmas, indeed.

Sanders on Huck's Latest Ad...Some of My Thoughts, Too

David Sanders has an interesting column on Huck's Christmas ad.

I hate to say it, but it's a superb ad. Unlike David, though, I don't think it will save Huck from his record and lies about it. Otherwise, I agree. It's probably the best non-issue ad I've seen this cycle. It should play very well with his intended audience. The good news is that it's effectiveness will be lost in the holiday rush and disappear in 5 days.

What Happened to All the Bad News About Iraq???

It hit me the other day that it's been a long, long time since I've seen a negative story from the Arkansas Times about the War in Iraq. I know they still want us to lose, but I guess they're coming to grips with the reality that we're winning and they don't want to draw too much attention to that or their complicity in proclaiming our defeat, trying to make it come about.

I scrolled through Max's blog a few minutes ago and I didn't find ONE story about Iraq, negative or otherwise. For the last few years I don't know if there's been a single day, until recently, that Max hasn't had at least one story designed to dishearten us.
I haven't forgotten and I won't ever. Max and the democrats have been leading the march for America to surrender and retreat from the battlefield. They won't just change the subject now that they've failed.

Huck Claims He Tough on Crimes Because He Didn't Let All of 'Em Go

Mitt Romney has something to say about that, though, pointing out that Huck pardoned or commuted over 1,000 criminals, including 12 murderers.

Here's the link to Huck's pitiful claim that he's tough on crime. Tough on crime? He granted more clemencies than our 3 previous governors combined and all 6 neighboring states combined. Bill Clinton was tougher on crime than Huckabee. What a joke.

VIDEO: Arkansans in Iowa---Baker and Matayo Distort the Truth, Shill for Huck

Travelling in Iowa to spread the word about Mike Huckabee, three former, and one current, Arkansas legislators appeared on Iowa's biggest radio show, WHO's Jan Mickelson Show.
Appearing to shill for Huckabee were current State Senator and former RPA Chairman Gilbert Baker and former State Representative Doug Matayo.
Appearing to tell the truth about Huckabee were former State Senator Jim Holt and former State Representative Randy Minton.
Mickelson's interview was very fair. I hope he is as appalled as I was at the brazen behavior demonstrated by Gilbert and Doug. I don't have time to cover everything that was said and done, but I've hit some of the highlights for you. Be sure to watch the video, linked at the bottom.
When it came time to defend Huck, Gilbert and Doug had a little trouble coming up with something positive that wasn't either something nobody disagrees with (i.e. he's pro-life) or a lie (he's a tax cutter).
When dealing with Huck's horrible record on illegal immigration as governor, you can actually see Gilbert reading talking points. He tries to explain away that Huckabee is now, supposedly strong on illegal immigration. The irony, of course, is that Jim Holt was sitting across the table from Gilbert when he was making this pitiful plea. Jim knows all too well what Huckabee actually thinks about illegal aliens. Jim bore the brunt of Huck's opinion when he was told that he drank a different kind of "Jesus juice" than Huckabee, an insinuation that Jim was both racist and a bad Christian.
Doug Matayo repeated the long-refuted lie that the people of Arkansas voted for the 1999 gas tax increase. As I've pointed out many times, Huckabee had already signed the tax into law months before we had the opportunity to vote on a ballot initiative to say how this reality of a tax would be spent. Doug isn't an idiot...well, let me rephrase...he knew that this was a lie when he said it.
"The people actually voted on it, not Mike Huckabee passing it..." Okay, Doug, you know that's a lie. Feel free to admit it and apologize.
Doug goes on to brag about Mike Huckabee begrudgingly signing into law 287(g) legislation to give Arkansas police the ability to partner with ICE to assist in immigration arrests. Doug very conveniently neglected to mention that Huckabee prevented the state police from enacting that provision.
Jim Holt also points out that Huckabee said at the time he brought the Mexican consulate to Little Rock that it would help illegal aliens acheive legal status, which he rightly points out is amnesty. Gilbert responds, as if he can stricken this from the record, that Huckabee never said "amnesty". Who cares, Gilbert? You're having to resort to distracting from the fact that what Huckabee did was intended to help illegal aliens receive amnesty by becoming legal. If someone removes your car without your permission but doesn't call it stealing, does that mean it's not stealing? No. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. You were trying to deceive people.
I'm glad to see that Mickelson didn't let Gilbert get away with your off the cuff, ridiculous claim that the consulate could help send illegals home. He's just making things up at this point. Everybody knows that the opposite is the case. When Mickelson asked him if the consulate had done that, he lied and said, "I don't know." You don't know!!! Of course, you know. You know it's not true. You knew it wasn't true when you said it. you were just scrambling because you didn't have any talking points made up for that subject, I would guess.
Both Doug and Gilbert can be clearly seen holding the talking points that I mentioned earlier. It's not surprising since it's surely taken some effort for them to repeat the lies which Huckabee has been telling about his record. Both of them look very uncomfortable, which makes sense given that they know that Huckabee's record and what they said during this appearance bear no resemblance.
Neither Jim Holt or Randy Minton looked or sounded flustered or scripted during the entire interview, because they weren't lying.
The most condescending portion was when Gilbert asked, "who paid for you trip? I'd like to know, who paid for your trip?"
"Ron Paul," answered Jim Holt.
So what? I can only assume that the Huckabee campaign paid for you and the others in the very small band of supporters that Huck was able to muster from Arkansas.
I can't cover everything, but I was flabbergasted by Doug's claim that Huckabee would always look you in the eyes and tell you the truth and that he didn't mind honest disagreements. I know lots of people who would dispute that. Huckabee has shown himself to be a shameless liar and liberal. He has always relished revenge. Crossing Mike has long been one of the most dangerous things for a Republican in Arkansas.
Asked to describe Mike Huckabee, Jim Holt accurately called him a pro-life, pro-gun Bill Clinton. I have to say that is dead on.
Of course, Randy and Jim had no problem admitting that Huck is pro-life and pro-gun, so it was somewhat of a surprise when the best Gilbert was able to muster at the end was that "pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun..." So what? Nobody is questioning that. So are most of the other Republicans in the race. Most of them aren't liberals and liars on taxes, spending, illegal immigration, crime, and foreign policy, though.
Again, Doug and Gilbert ought to be ashamed. That was a positively despicable display. They're both angling for some important position, I'm sure, if Huck keeps his rising. They both know well enough that Huckabee is only loyal and grateful as long as it benefits him. The annals of Arkansas politics are littered with the bodies of those Huckabee has thrown under the bus, for crossing him or losing their value.

As I Was Saying...Huck Is a Lightweight on Foreign Policy

Peter Wehner has a piece in National Review, today, illustrating just what I said earlier. Mike Huckabee is a lightweight when it comes to foreign policy.

Here's the link.

Foreign Affairs: Huckabee Illustrates His Ignorance, Again...

It looks like it's time to dust off the old jokes I used to tell about Bill Clinton's foreign policy experience when he was running for president. Here's my favorite: the extent of Mike Huckabee's foreign policy experience consists of eating contests with John Mark at the International House of Pancakes...
He's now demostrating that with comments that illustrate is ignorance. Calling the Bush Administration's policy in Iraq a "bunker mentality", Huck demonstrates, again, that he doesn't have a clue what is going on in the world. Earlier, he admitted that he didn't know what was going on in Iraq.
Mike Huckabee shouldn't be running for president. He should be running for court jester.

Huck Peddling Commutations?

David Sanders has a superb piece in National Review about another of Mike Huckabee's suspect commutations.
The highly irregular commutation of Eugene Fields, a habitual drunk driver, is, by far, the most remarkable case of influence peddling I've seen since Bill Clinton's last minute pardons.
Fields' wife made several contributions to the Republican Party of Arkansas, totaling over $10,000, over a short period of time, which was punctuated by his extraordinarily early release.
Once again, the gloss wears thin on Huckabee's tin-foil armor.

HuckaLIE # ?---I've Lost Count: Mike Huckabee Does Not Have a Theology Degree

Mike Huckabee proudly announced at one of the debates that his opinion was more valuable than others because he was the only Republican candidate with a theology degree. Well... It turns out that isn't so.
This is actually a surprise to me. Huckabee has been saying for years that he has a theology degree. It was just assumed all these years that he was telling the truth. I know I've always thought it was the case.

...Governor Huckabee, You're No Reagan...: Pinkerton's Folly

"Huckabee, like Reagan, wouldn't be an 'easy kill'"
So reads the headline of this recent piece by Jim Pinkerton. Unfortunately, for Mr. Pinkerton's analysis, there was more to President Reagan than charm. He was a real, substantive conservative, not a liberal pretending to be one, attempting to redefine liberalism as conservatism.
As for the comparison of communication abilities, Reagan was not a glib, smart alek politician. He was an elegant statesman.
Reagan was larger than life, but never thought he was too good for anyone. Huckabee is a small, petty man who will fade from our memories as soon as his last joke sinks to the floor.
It wasn't just Reagan's words that were golden. It was his word that was gold.
Contrast that with Mike Huckabee, who is a silver-tongued devil, literally, at best, a cheap knock-off of a golden-voiced saint.
I do occasionally enjoy Pinkerton's opinions on Fox News, but as someone who actually knows Mike Huckabee, the real Mike Huckabee, I have to disagree with him, politely.
Huckabee is no Reagan.

Newsflash: Democrats Hope Huckabee is Our Nominee

Drudge has this story today, but I've been saying it for a long time. Democrats want Mike Huckabee to be our candidate. They see him as their easiest target.
Drudge doesn't mention this, but Huck's greatest vulnerability is Arkansas. He simply isn't capable of carrying Arkansas against Bill Clinton. Huckabee has no support in his own state. Republican activists and operatives in Arkansas are at best indifferent about Huckabee. The list of legislators he put together several weeks ago is made up mostly of people who signed on begrudgingly. Most are privately supporting other candidates.
It's the same with the rest of Arkansans, except that we weren't asked to sign an artificial letter of support. Even to this day I have only seen two Huckabee for President bumperstickers in the entire state. One was on a Huckabee family member's car. I travel the state extensively on a regular basis. No one is talking about Huckabee except to talk about all the reasons why he'll lose.
The democrats are fully aware of Huckabee's worse than precarious situation here in Arkansas. The Clinton's still have plenty of operatives on the ground in Arkansas.

So I'm not surprised that the democrats see all of Huckabee's flaws and see an easy target.

For those Republicans around the country who are reading this. Consider these questions: why is the media pushing Huckabee? Why are the democrats giving him a free pass? Why is he running from his record? Why is he so unpopular in Arkansas?
Here's the link to Drudge's story.

Another Secret Tax Election in Little Rock Today...For the Children...REALLY!

Look for your taxes to go up if you live in Little Rock, because a remarkably small number of people, mostly librarians and patrons of the Central Arkansas Library System, are going to be the only people to turn out to vote on the tax increase on this typically inconspicuous day.

This is an old trick. I don't have time to check, but I'd be surprised if libraries aren't the main polling sites, too.

As with most tax increases, this one is for the children. How could you possibly be against children? Apparently, there's a plan for an all new "children's library" in the works if this tax passes, which it will.

Max, who, not surprisingly, supports the tax, has more details on the link.

National Review on Nanny State Huckabee

I've been saying this for a while, so it's gratifying to see such a prestigious, conservative institution as National Review shining the light of truth on Mike Huckabee's abysmal and disturbing record. Mike Huckabee ran Arkansas as his personal do-good slushfund. As Mitt Romney said in the last debate, "it's not your money." Unfortunately, Mike Huckabee thinks it is. Fred Coming to Life...Going After Huckabee and Going After Iowa

Fred is moving his campaign to Iowa. He's been showing a lot of energy, lately. He's also looking and sounding very presidential.
Here's the link to the Weekly Standard story.
"-Huckabee made a joke of his skimpy foreign policy experience, telling radio host Don Imus, "I may not be the expert as some people on foreign policy, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night," a play on the hotel chain's commercials."

Soft on Crime---Glen Green: Another Brutal Murderer For Whom Huck Had More Compassion Than For Their Victim

Gov. Huckabee probably never read the confession of a demented killer named Glen Green before he made the monster eligible for parole.
Green's confession is so depraved, its sadistic details so scary that no sane, responsible adult would consider him for parole.
If the governor didn't read the confession, he is guilty of dereliction of duty.
But if he read the confession and still considers Green deserving of parole, he's certainly unfit to hold office. Who would free a madman who beat an 18-year-old woman with Chinese martial-arts sticks, raped her as she barely clung to life, ran over her with his car, then dumped her in the bayou, her hand reaching up, as if begging for mercy?
That's another excerpt from the Arkansas Leader, documenting Huck's Soft on Criminals record.
I hadn't even heard of Glen Green. It doesn't surprise me, though. Mike Huckabee has a serious flaw in his theology which causes or allows him to be more interested in the here and now than in justice. He's more interested in how friendly and sincere a brutal murderer seems than in the importance of justice.
Here's the link.
By the way, I've been asked by a many of you what the blurb says at the bottom of Huck's latest book cover. It reads,
"If it weren't for Mike Huckabee, I wouldn't have been able to walk free. He went to bat for me with the parole board and let them know who was boss."
---Wayne DuMond, Rapist, Murderer, Former Inmate, and Friend of the Huckster
DuMond didn't really say that. But I'm sure he appreciated Huck's compassion. As for the girls DuMond raped and murdered and their families, not so much.
Here's a link to another good story about Huck letting DuMond go.

More On DuMond From the Arkansas Times

Here's the link.

UGGGGHHHH...Bush to Outline 5-year Rate Freeze Plan

This is bad news for borrowers and the market. In effect it's a bailout. Lenders are going to have to pay the cost which will hurt them with their investors. A rate freeze will actually serve to freeze out borrowers.

The government doesn't need to be fiddling with the market. The president should know better. I hope this isn't true.

Huckabee Caught Lying, Again...This Time on His Open Borders Record---David Sanders' Superb Column

Stephanopoulos: Why shouldn't they get the federal aid as well as the
state aid?
Huckabee: Well, it's the difference between (being) punished and being
rewarded.

His logic capsized. Apparently for Huckabee, withholding college scholarships or
in-state tuition from the children of illegal immigrants is tantamount to the
state "punishing" students for the sins of their parents, but withholding Pell
grants or financial aid from the children of illegal immigrants is tantamount to
the federal government simply not "rewarding" these same students for the sins
of their parents?

That's a brief excerpt from David Sanders' devastating column published today courtesy of the Arkansas News Bureau. Sanders analysis is of the "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" video I excerpted earlier in the week, which I'm reposting here today, of Huckabee doing verbal backflips and cartwheels trying desperately to salvage a disastrous dilemma that Stephanopoulos posed for him.

HB1525, which Sanders and Stephanopoulos referenced, was sponsored by a very liberal, former State Representative named Joyce Elliott. Huckabee supported the bill from start to finish.

The final version was exclusively a bill to give in-state tuition to illegal aliens, which is completely at odds with the claims that Huckabee has been making, lately, and also happens to be against federal law. It said nothing about someone seeking citizenship, which Huckabee has been lying about.

It says nothing about attending Arkansas schools someone's entire career, as Huckabee has been lying about (It actually only required attending 3 years of schooling in Arkansas, which is also at variance with his claim that the student might start at age 13.).

It said nothing about being drug and alcohol free, as Huckabee has been lying about.

And it said nothing about having good grades or being the top of their class, as Huckabee has been lying about.

The only two things that have any basis in truth are his claims about being drug and alcohol free and having good grades, but those are totally unrelated to this legislation. Those are requirements of the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship. Huckabee has been intentionally lying about this, again assuming that we're all stupid, as if we wouldn't check. It's not like it was that difficult to check. It's all on the Arkansas Legislature's website and I had already posted a thoroughly documented story about it.

But Mike Huckabee just can't help himself. His record is that of a liberal, RINO governor who ran Arkansas as an effective Sanctuary State. He not only thought and said those of us who opposed giving taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens were racists and un-Christian, he pushed for programs like this which would have made Arkansas more of an attractive safe-haven for illegal aliens. He opposed implementation of 287(g), which would have helped ICE enforcement and supported giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens, because he thought it was racist to verify someone's immigration status, a sentiment which in practice renders the concepts of borders, sovereignty, and the rule of law inoperable.

How do you enforce immigration laws if you can't ask people who they are because it's obviously racist (to Huckabee) because they are hispanic?

I've written about this extensively, but Huckabee is more and more getting tripped up in his own smooth-talking web of lies and liberalism. He can't run from his record forever. He's said that he's glad to get tough questions and be "attacked" because it's a sign that he's succeeding. It may be true that it's a sign that he's experiencing success, but I promise you he isn't happy about it. He's paying the piper for his years of arrogant, liberal condescension.

Pointing out what an excruciating stretch Huckabee made attempting to distinguish between a reward and a punishment in regard to federal vs. state college assistance is a masterstroke. I applaud David Sanders for making that distinction. Huckabee clearly had no answer prepared and his attempt was both feeble and telling. Feeble in that it illustrated how precarious his position is and telling in the way it offered a glimpse into the psyche of someone who isn't a real conservative, but a person who merely ascribes that word to all of his actions for its rhetorical value regardless how liberal his actions and positions really are.

Ditsy Chicks On the Side of Wrong, Again

First they wanted us to believe that it was patriotic to root for America to lose the War. Now they're helping defend the West Memphis 3, who are brutal murderers. That is actually a logical step for them.

Rich Lowry on Huck and the Fair Tax

As I wrote, yesterday, Huckabee's adoption of the Fair Tax proposal is quite appropriate considering he was never serious about cutting taxes as governor. So, why not choose the most impossible tax plan of all?
Rich Lowry has a superb column about the Fair Tax and Huck's convenient support of it. Here's the link.

Huckabee's Nightmare---The Ghost of Wayne DuMond: Part !!

CBS has picked up the story of Wayne DuMond, the convicted rapist who became a cause celeb of Mike Huckabee. The Huckster fought hard to see that DuMond walk free and succeeded. Not long after his release he sexually assaulted murdered a woman in Missouri, thanks to Huckabee going above and beyond to help free him.
Here's the link to one of my earlier posts on DuMond.
Here's the link to CBS's story about it, complete with video and a link to the Arkansas Times story, which I also have, which is the most comprehensive source on the topic.

Still Dealing With Huckabee's Illegal Immigration Problem

Last week CNN's Lou Dobbs filmed his show from Little Rock. Not surprisingly and thankfully, he had some pretty harsh words to say about the Arkansas Friendship Coalition. State Representatives Jon Woods and Rick Green appeared with Dobbs to discuss our ongoing problem with illegal immigration in Arkansas. In this video Representative Woods discusses the ramifications in response to the gobbledegook from Steve Copley of the Friendship Coalition.

Mike Huckabee, who has been twisting, distorting, and lying about his record of running Arkansas as a Sanctuary State on the campaign trail is the reason why we're dealing with this issue at all. He was the driving force behind numerous attempts to expand inducements to bring more illegal aliens to Arkansas and make them nice and comfy. And he was the driving force in stopping any efforts to curb illegal immigration to Arkansas.

Rudy Finally Goes After Huckabee

Referring to Huckabee's unrealistic Fair Tax proposal, "why waste our time trying to do this if we can't actually accomplish it?" Giuliani said. "I try to put my time into things that we can actually accomplish."

Why? Because Huckabee was never serious about cutting taxes so why not pick the most impossible tax plan of all?

Breitbart has the story. Here's the link.

Huckabee on Stephanoloulos: Where to Begin...

While I work through all of the brazen things Huck said in this interview enjoy this video of Huckabee hemming and hawing about his record and current position on illegal immigration. Note that he never directly answers anything that George says, such as when he ignores the question about his support scholarships and harboring illegal aliens. He just says, "aw, shucks, I'm not fer amnesty (paraphrased)."

Huck goes on to say he doesn't support the idea of Sanctuary Cities. What Huckabee actually doesn't support is the term Sanctuary, because he ran Arkansas as a Sanctuary State. "What I do support, though, is humane treatment of human beings," Huck says with his typical condescension for those of us who treasure our sovereignty and the rule of law.

He goes into his spiel about how "you don't punish a child because a parent committed a crime." ...soooo, you reward the parent by giving them our tax money and sending their kids to college in violation of federal law??? And you say it's racist to help the federal government enforce immigration laws, like 287(g). And thus encourage more and more of them to come to Arkansas...hence Arkansas's current status as a Sanctuary State...

Stephanopoulos lets him have it, though. I guess he doesn't like Huckabee insulting his intelligence, either. He forces Huckabee to admit that the legislation that Huckabee finds so easy to distort says absolutely nothing about the time someone has to be in Arkansas's schools, which Huckabee has been lying about for some time.

I could go on point by point, but time is running short right for now. I'll get back with this and much more as soon as I can.

Here's a link to AP's analysis.

UGGGHHHH...

Of course this doesn't say anything about his nearly complete lack of support in Arkansas, but Huckabee is still going up in the polls where people don't know him, as this latest Rasmussen poll shows.

Mike Huckabee: Nanny State Republican...Dream Come True...Ban on Junk Food and Soft Drinks in School

This story doesn't specifically mention Mike Huckabee, but it's a dream come true for him. His compatriots in the nanny state movement, the democrats in congress, are proposing a ban on the sale of all junk food and soft drinks in all public schools in the country.

Now, I'm not sure where in the Constitution the federal government derives the authority to do this, but I'm sure that won't bother Mike Huckabee who is one of the biggest RINO advocates for the No Personal Responsibility Movement.

Here's the link.

Difference Between Democrats and Republicans

Fred Thompson and Hillary were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person.

The Republican, Fred Thompson, gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

Hillary was very impressed, so when they came to another homeless person, she decided to help. She walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. She then reached into Thompson's pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fees and gave the homeless person $5.

NOW do you understand the difference?

The Day That Huckabee Lied...Well One of 'Em

Here's the whole video of Huckabee with Bill Hemmer on the day I caught him lying about his tax record on Fox News.

Huckabee and Scholarships for Illegal Aliens

As I've mentioned many times, Mike Huckabee made a strong push to give college scholarships to illegal aliens. Other Republican candidates are making an issue of it, for good reason.

Here's the link to an AP story about it.

P.S. I've got a shiny new nickel (not really) for the person who can tell me what the title of his book, shown here, says.

Death Penalty Commission Ballot Initiative? Bring It On

A group of anti-justice activists has vowed to put forth a ballot initiative if Gov. Beebe doesn't create a commission to study the death penalty.

I will venture a guess that Gov. Beebe isn't going to waste his time on such a frivolous pursuit. Although I believe he probably sincerely supports the death penalty, he's also not dumb. The people of Arkansas overwhelmingly support it.

As for putting an initiative on the ballot, I say, go right ahead. I doubt it will get 30% of the vote.

Bob Novak's piece this week, which I meant to publish days ago, is devastating and devastatingly true about Huckabee. Heaven help us.

Brummett: Huckabee's Media Skills

John Brummett has a very good column about how it is that Mike Huckabee is such a smooth operator with the media, throwing out soundbites like a disc jockey... Well, he was one.
I have a friend who has also said Huckabee is unique because he's a preacher. Unlike most politicians, who give the same stump speech over and over, I don't know if I ever heard him give the same speech twice. I have heard the same stories many times, but, as my friend suggested, as a preacher Huckabee had to say something different every Sunday, which is why, with the help of his speechwriters, he's able come up with so much slick material.
But getting back to John Brummett's column, Huck is a smooth operator much more in the styling of a disc jockey. He's right. I would say that his speeches and long form talking is much more in the style of a preacher. His soundbites are those of a disc jockey.
"His superficially likable nature, which provides the essence of his oddly succeeding presidential campaign, comes via a disc jockey's shtick rather than a pastor's. I refer to the rich intonations of his professional voice, the music, the hip topicality, the impersonations, the jokes, the Mr. Glib."
Here's the link to Brummett's superb column.
