My Response to the Huckabee Talking Point in the Post Above

Interesting analysis, but I happen to know a little bit about the subject.
Let me put the number of clemencies that Huckabee granted in perspective. The 1,033 he granted were more than all 6 neighboring states combined and all 3 previous governors combined, which includes Bill Clinton.

The 6 neighboring states are Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Of those states, not one is smaller than Arkansas. They have a combined population of 45,615,837, which is 16.41 times larger than that of Arkansas, meaning that Huckabee granted clemency to far more people when compared to proportion of population than he should have.

Another way to analyse this is that Mike Huckabee granted a clemency every 4 days for over 10 years, which is also shocking.

Now, to your assertion that DuMond shouldn't be lumped in with these others, Huckabee's actions belie this. While he did not technically grant DuMond clemency, this is only because when he originally attempted to do so there was so much public outcry that he decided to pressure the parole board into letting him go, instead, which he was successful at accomplishing. So, while you are technically correct, it is more than fair to include DuMond in that list because Huckabee took an active role in having him released.
