Time to Tax Big Chocolate
Nestle has announced that it is expanding its frozen food operations in Jonesboro. It's high time that we raise the frozen food severance tax on this upstart. You'd think they'd know better than to try to be successful in this state without asking permission first. Here's the link.

To not appear hypocritical, I think Hussman and Brantley owe it to all Arkansans to voluntarily impose and remit to the state a sales tax on their newspapers and advertising. 6.5% will do. It will be less than the severance tax that they want to impose on the gas producers. How much would that be? $10 million? $20 million? If not, maybe Nelson will include that tax in his initiated act so Beebe will further reduce the sales tax on food.
Very clever. I'm going to reprint your comment on Sunday to highlight this irony.
can we tax newspapers by initiated act? i would much rather tax them than our natural gas. think of the money that could be raised by taxing newspapers... it could be used for scholarships! or roads! or healthcare!
oh! and there is an another great thing about it. a tax on newpapers would save the planet. think of all the trees that could be saved. or the waste prevented from overflowing our landfills. or all that mercury in the ink that pollutes our environment.
also, we need to force them to pay minimum wage to the delivery people. why is it that everyone in the state has to pay minimum wage except the newspapers?
meh. newspapers.
now there is a racket if i ever saw one
Watch out, Big Water's next. I've already heard talk about Big Ski benefiting this year from the coldest winter in our lifetime!
