Beebe and Democrat Members of AR Delegation Oppose Budget Increase for AR Taxpayers...Say Govt Can't Afford Budget Cut...Despite $164 MILLION Surplus

You read that right, folks.

Again, the governor and his democrat comrades in our congressional delegation are demonstrating that they believe that we exist to fund government. With Arkansans struggling to make ends meet, they just can't part with a penny of our money. The state just can't afford to give us a budget increase. It can't take a budget cut. They oppose a gas tax holiday.

Meanwhile, the numbers are out that the state has a $164 MILLION surplus! Of course, they couldn't possibly use that for roads and encourage the federal government to suspend the gas tax...

Remember what I always say, democrats believe that we, the taxpayers, exist to fund government. That's why they always side with themselves when budgets are being decided. We always have to do without, either a budget increase (tax cut) or more of our money (tax increase). You see, the state just can't afford a budget cut. Somehow, hard working families can, though.

They spend who knows how much to give aways "free" gas cans and go over budget by more than 50% to build a new visitors' center at the Capitol, which cost us over $700,000 and wasn't an entire new building, by the way. All they did was add some lights, expand the gift shop, and do some millwork in the first floor of the Rotunda. Take a gander if you get a chance to go to the Capitol some time. Let me know if you see $700,000 worth of work there. I bet it's another case of lining some politician's family member's pocket.

Either way, these are just two examples of why the state can't do without OUR money.

You are all over the place on this post. I failed to follow. You MIGHT be on to something. But it is certainly not clear.

Are you saying that the Arkansas government should spend more and not cut the budget? Are you saying that the Federal government should spend more by sending more to Arkansas?

Perhaps you should be asking why a liberal Democrat governor would be wanting to "save" money by revising budget forcasts. Is he hoarding bucks for his own special pork projects to pay off his "friends." Surely he isn't working to limit the growth of the state government.

What he's saying is that the state thinks we exist to provide revenue for the government. So we taxpayers) never get a budget increase. We do get budget cuts all the time. Government rarely lets gives itself budget cuts and is constantly giving itself budget increases.

The examples of the gas cans and the visitors' center appear to be examples of how foolishly govenrment is spending our money, even though they claim they couldn't possibly afford a budget cut. It's really a very clever post.

Once I figured out the concept it really was clever.

The budget increase for Arkansas taxpayers means a tax cut. A budget cut for taxpayers would mean a tax increase. It's a way of looking at budgeting for taxpayers the way that government looks at it. The government always wants budget increases, never wants budget cuts, which means that taxpayers always get budget cuts, almost never budget increases.

Ooooohhh. I see. You mean that the taxpayer himself gets a budget increase because he is paying less in taxes. What you are saying is that in hard economic times, the PEOPLE who are directly experiencing the loss of revenue or higher costs should have their burdens lightened. What a concept, if the people must tighten thier belts, then the government should tighten it's even more. So true.

Thank you for the clarifications. This is a concept I've been developing for a while. Taxpayers deserve a budget increase.

The governor is reducing the budget of some of the agencies (education excluded....of course) under the assumption that an economic slowdown will have a negative effect on state revenue. DFA is always "conservative" when it estimates revenue to prevent talk of tax cuts and maintain government spending.
Since Arkansas's economy is dominated by state government employment and social program handouts, state and federal, we never do as well as the rest of the nation in the growth periods and slowdown is tempered when the economy cools.
So this "budget cutting" is simply an excuse to generate another surplus which will be used to perform the miracle of finishing the elimination of the grocery tax by the end of the next legislative session.
The plan was in place before the special session to raise the severance tax.
Economic development..... yeah right. He has to maintain the highest income tax in the region to accomplish this. The surplus is being generated by ever increasing income tax revenue.
Beebe gets to be a hero with public money.
Classic Socialism.
