Subsidizing Ethanol Putting Pinch on Other Farmers

Arkansas catfish producers are feeling the pinch of rising grain prices as the government continues to subsidize ethanol production. At last count, there were 4 gas stations in Arkansas that sell E85 fuel. That's some reward for how much we spend on subsidizing the fuel. In the meantime cattle ranchers and catfish farmers, among many others, are struggling to keep up. That's government running the economy for ya.

There is authority in the U.S. Constitution for taxing "me" to support "you" if it's in the "General Welfare". Article I Section 8 of our Constitution defines specifically what general welfare congress can spend tax money on and guess what, ethanol subsidies aren't in there.

Why do liberals (socialists) decry the loss of civil rights from expansive executive presidential powers to defeat terrorism, and embrace the loss of constitutionally protected rights through regulation and taxation? Because they really don't believe in individual freedom and the right to pursue happiness.

As I think of our country's founders and their war time exploits, I am certain that they would condemn our intrusive and expansive federal government as something that was never intended by their sacrifices.

Our Founding Fathers fought to overthrow a far less intrusive government.

Good comment.
