Animal Cruelty Bill Passes Senate...Oh, And So Does A Pay Raise For Politicians!
Where should I begin?Buried in this article about the animal cruelty bill, is a short blurb stating that, "the Senate gave final approval to a pay raise for legislators, constitutional officers and judges."
I'll do a whole post about that one. Apparently, things are so great in the economy, as taxpayers struggle with job losses, et al, that the state senate thought it was high time to give themselves a raise!!!
Back to the "animal cruelty" bill...check the criminal code and you'll find that this proposed law is more strenuous in its punishment of "animal abuse", which is a debatable term in many cases, than CHILD ABUSE! Sue Madison is happy as a clam about it, trumpeting that there were no "no" votes in the senate.
It's remarkable that this pet project (forgive the pun) of the liberal grand damme of the senate is being taken seriously. Consider that it has failed miserably for several sessions, now. If a Conservative attempted, but failed, to pass a piece of controversial legislation for several sessions, other legislators would roll their eyes and tell him to stop wasting his time. When Sue Madison does it, though, they just finally decide to roll over, like she's Bob Dole in the 1996 primary and it's her turn to win something.
It's very interesting that the supposed non-partisan nature and collegiality of politics in Little Rock only seems to work in favor of democrats. Exactly how many pieces of Conservative legislation has Sue Madison helped pass unopposed for the sake of getting along?
More on the pay raise, tomorrow.
Here's the link.
