Legislator Files Bill That Discriminates Against Home Schoolers

Rep. David Cook, D-Williford, a former school administrator, apparently thinks home schooling families shouldn't have the same rights as families who seek to move their kids from public to private schools. He wants to make it illegal to pull your kids out of a public school to homeschool them during the school year. He also wants to give the local public school administrator broader control over home schooled kids, even though, they are not, and should not be, under the authority of a public school.

As usual, there's a generic excuse for this that some undefined number of parents don't have their kid's best interest at heart. This is just one more example of the nanny state knowing what's best for our kids. Besides, they care more about our kids than we do.

This is a bad precedent and it's none of the state's business to tell parents that they cannot make decisions for their own children.
